The First “Railway Inn LADIES Doubles Competition”

The Club hosted a ladies only competition. The weather was fine and sunny. The players were fun and an enjoyed the day. The usual Team Name dilema was avoided by a draw for team names all with a cake link. There was a total of 13 teams registered, and initially the sound of laughter was all arond, until the Petanque started then all of a sudden the day became a little more serious. still enjoyable but just that little more concentration coulad be seen. The age old issue of a League of 5 raised its head but the ladies took the delay in there stride.
The final was between Fay and  Sarah and Sheila and Melissa. With Fay and Sarah triumphant. Everyone went away with a litle bottle of wine for joining us. Well i say went away, some were consmed before players left, well i suppose it was a ladies competition.   Thanks to all those attending hopefully a regular fixture for the calender.

The Railway at Isle of Wight 2013

EPA CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND 2013

Over the weekend of the 25th, 26th and 27th May the English Petanque association held the 2013 singles, doubles and mixed doubles championships the tournament was hosted again this year by the Hurricanes petanque club   at Shanklin and Sandown Rugby club.
The weekend was a great success for both the organisers – the weather was sunny and warm every day -  and for the Railway.  Only 3 Railway players were unable to attend and those that did achieved some great results. Notably, Scott Ashby reached the finals of both the doubles on the Sunday and the mixed Doubles on the Monday.  On the Saturday Stephen BROWN started it all off by reaching the semi-finals of the singles.  But these individual accomplishments were underpinned by good results from all The Railway representatives.
6 Players from the Railway reached the last 32 of the Singles.
4 players made the last 16 in Sunday doubles
And 6 players from the Railway made the last 16 of the Mixed doubles on the Monday.
However there must be a special mention for the commentary on the final unfortunately due to the late hour of the mixed doubles final, some of the railway players were on the ferry back so Dean ASHBY kept the excitement going with a commentary on whatsapp.
